Mixed

Welcome to my 555 series! Please read the introduction to this project {here}.  Week 4 Post 5 I was high-strung for a full day after my therapist told me, “you’re not a laid back person, and it’s OKAY!!!”  I break into hysterical laughter over my friends’ most inane inside jokes but roll my eyes at jokes told by inane people. I miss my family so much but get anxious whenever I have to plan a trip home.  I like spending most of my time alone, but am always thinking of who I’d like to hang out with next. I’m a member of the Mixed Emotions Club.

Lighting The Wrong Kind of Fire

Welcome to my 555 series! Please read the introduction to this project {here}.  Week 4 Post 4 When a guy is broken up with after a drawn out relationship, he will always claim he was blindsided. He will never admit to have seen any telltale signs. That’s denial at work. But how does he not see his hand in it? Sometimes a man can be like a little boy who likes playing with matches, responsible for lighting a house fire he didn’t expect to start.

Me too, Maira

Welcome to my 555 series! Please read the introduction to this project {here}. Wk 4 Post 3 “I would like to continue doing what I am doing. Writing/drawing books, traveling, visiting gardens around the world. Working with children and the elderly. What that means I don’t know. But I will find out.”  ~Maira Kalman Quote via Design Sponge

Standards Not Expectations

Welcome to my 555 series! Please read the introduction to this project {here}.  Week 4 Post 2 “Have standards not expectations.  Standards are something you have for yourself, and expectations are something you have for someone else. And you control yourself you don’t control other people. If you say that you don’t accept a certain kind of behavior or treatment, people who fit that standard and treat you that way fit into your life, and people who don’t are out. Whereas if you’re like ‘I expect you to do this, that, and the other,’ that’s not something you have control over, so you’re setting yourself up to be unhappy.”  ~Daphne Oz

Midday

Welcome to my 555 series! Please read the introduction to this project {here}.  Wk 4 Post 1  Halfway through my day and it’s 12:20pm.   Breakfast was a hearty one of oatmeal, berries with almond nut butter and a half cup of a green smoothie. I spent some time preparing my wardrobe for our upcoming trip to Europe.  I am in the middle of developing some drafts, wrote letters, wrapped a gift, read through a magazine, and will exercise in a few minutes for half an hour. For midday, I’d say so far, so good.

Time

Welcome to my 555 series! Please read the introduction to this project {here}.  Wk 3 Post 5 The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of sixty minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is. ~C.S. Lewis They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself. ~Andy Warhol It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important. ~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Those who make the worst use of their time are the first to complain of its brevity. ~Jean de La Bruyère Time is a created thing. To say ‘I don’t have time,’ is like saying, ‘I don’t want to. ~Lao Tzu

TV Is My Friend:  I’d Hoped She Could Be Too

Welcome to my 555 series! Please read the introduction to this project {here}.  Wk 3 Post 4  Me:  “I have a running DVR recording for Will & Grace. It’s my sanity at the end of the day, like a background radio show I play while cooking. What shows do you love?”  Her:  “Oh I don’t watch sitcoms, I’m not into sitcoms.” *cue the sound of a needle dragging across a vinyl record.

Hate To Love It

Welcome to my 555 series! Please read the introduction to this project {here}.  Wk 3 Post 3 Ugh, eff you, ZARA, and your affordably delicious fall/winter ’15 fashions. Stop it with your focused variety of designs and on-trend surprises!  How dare you have exactly what we want at prices we can handle.  Obviously I only noticed that jacket with the assymetrical zipper, those boots with the gold flat heel, and another pair of patterned pants on my way out when I was already done this evening and will now HAVE to come back tomorrow morning because I already know I won’t be able to sleep tonight for not trying them on. Ugh,  eff you, ZARA,  … eff you.

What Stephen Said

Welcome to my 5 5 5 series.  Read my project introduction here. Wk 3 Post 2  Because at this point in life, the quote below is something most of us can relate to, either about another bird, or about ourselves.   “Some birds are not meant to be caged, that’s all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild. So you let them go, or when you open the cage to feed them they somehow fly out past you. And the part of you that knows it was wrong to imprison them in the first place rejoices, but still, the place where you live is that much more drab and empty for their departure.”  -Stephen King

Sunday Shame

Welcome to my 5 5 5 series. The objective of this exercise is to write five lines five times a week for five weeks, to get me back into a regular post writing habit. Habits don’t create themselves, after all. The parameters of frequency & amount of sentences/ lines will remain throughout this series, while the topics and format can be varied. Read my introduction here. Wk 3 Post 1 I was hungry when I got home from the airport. I devoured a serving of crispy pata (deep fried pig’s knuckles) meant for three people. I ate it straight out of the disposable to-go box while standing up in the kitchen, barely getting the order fully out of its Filipino restaurant plastic take out bag before diving in. I was too busy shoveling garlic fried rice into my mouth while pulling apart the pork to plate it properly.  Of course I used utensils, it’s not like I’m an animal or anything.
